Student performers from Syracuse University's Setnor School of Music entertained a crowd of 200 and raised $1,500 in a benefit concert Feb. 28 for the Simeon Popov Memorial Fund.

Adding the concert total to previous dollars raised-including a $1,000 donation from CHA Management Corp.(Campus Hill Apartments)-the memorial fund stands at about $3,800.

Established by SU in early February, the fund will be used to:

? purchase basic equipment for the Music Academy Pancho Vladigerov, Popov's former school in his native Sofia, Bulgaria;

? provide a new instrument as an award to a promising young trombonist at a future competition at the Music Academy; and

? provide an annual prize to a graduating Setnor School student, to be given at the school's spring awards ceremony in April.

A CD is being made of the Thursday night concert and is available for $10 through the Setnor School of Music (443-2191). Proceeds benefit the memorial fund.

Those wishing to make a direct donation may do so c/o the Simeon Popov Memorial Fund c/o Hendricks Chapel, Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY 13244.
