"No Place Like Home: Prints and Works on Paper" by graduate student Joel Seah is on exhibit in the College of Visual and Performing Arts Office of the Dean in Crouse College. The exhibition will run through Feb. 1, 2003. Viewing hours are 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Seah is a student in the college's School of Art and Design, where he is working on an M.F.A. in printmaking. Although he is Chinese, Seah was born and raised in Singapore, and had a distinctly non-traditional, Western upbringing. His artwork reflects his search for his Chinese identity and ethnic heritage.
Seah is a 2001 graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a bachelor of fine arts. He has received a number of awards and honors for his work, including several Juror Awards at Art International in Atlanta (2000 and 2001), the Award of Distinction at the 25th Annual Student Show at the University of Alabama (2001), the Juror's Award of Distinction at the Y2Klay National Juries Exhibition at the Buddy Holly Center for Fine Arts Gallery in Texas (2000) and the Award of Excellence at the International Artist Management show, St. Petersburg, Fla. (1999), among others.
He was a 2002 International Artist-in-Residence at Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia; and has exhibited his work in Singapore, Melbourne, Syracuse and Birmingham, Alabama.
