Edward L. Byrnes's essay, "Mortal Sting: How the USS Hornet Cured the Imperial Japanese Navy of its 'Victory Disease,'" was recently published in the hardcover anthology "Today's Best Military Writing: The Finest Articles on the Past, Present, and Future of the U.S. Military," edited by Walter J. Boyne, a best-selling author and former director of the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
Byrnes, of Syracuse, authored the article in 2002 while working as the managing editor and art director of Foundation magazine, a military aviation publication published by the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola, Fla. He is currently a news manager in the Office of News Services at Syracuse University.
