The Syracuse University Drama Department will perform "Women of Lockerbie" Nov. 12-Dec. 5 at the BlackBox Theater, located at Syracuse Stage. The event is free; donations are welcome.
"Women of Lockerbie," a play written by Deborah Brevoort, is based on the true story of how the people of Lockerbie, Scotland, recovered personal items belonging to their loved ones after the 1988 bombing of PanAm Flight 103. The play will be directed by Joan Hart Willard, assistant professor in the drama department, and will star SU drama students.
"This play is very much about redemption, hope and lamentation," says Joan Hart Willard, assistant professor in SU drama and the director of the play. "It has a particular significance to the Syracuse community, but the themes are relevant to everyone the world over."
An exhibition of photos in the lobby of Syracuse Stage will accompany the performances. SU has maintained close ties with the community of Lockerbie, having lost 35 students in the bombing. Eleven Lockerbie residents were also killed.
