The Department of Recreation Services and Student Centers and Programming Services, two principal units in the Division of Student Affairs, have been planning regional conferences for their respective professional associations for several months in collaboration with other colleges and universities as well as representatives from the respective national headquarters of these organizations.
The 25th Annual National Intramural-Recreational Sports Association (NIRSA) Region 1 Conference will be held Nov. 11-13 at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center. The conference theme, "Where Region 1 Comes to Learn and Play," reflects the rich history of NIRSA. NIRSA is a non-profit membership organization serving a network of more than 4,000 members in the recreational sports field throughout the United States, Canada, and other countries. On Nov. 12-14, the Association of College Unions International (ACUI) will hold the Region 2 Conference at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center. This year's keynote address will be given by Martha J. Blood, director of corporate partnerships and chief operating officer of ACUI Procure. The conference theme, "Crossroads--Where People and Ideas Come Together," will be complemented by her address focused on change and transition. ACUI is a non-profit educational organization founded in 1914. Through programs, conferences, and other educational activities, students and staff learn about the role of the college union on campus and work together in fulfilling that role.
