The New York City-based Cassatt String Quartet will be the featured performer at the next installment of the Brahms Festival at 8 p.m. Nov. 12 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in Syracuse University's Crouse College. The concert is free and open to the public.
The Cassatt will perform Brahms' Piano Quintet in f minor, op. 34, accompanied by pianist Fred Karpoff, associate professor in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Performing Brahms' Piano Trio in C Major, op. 87, will be violinist James Krehbiel, instructor in the Setnor School of Music; cellist Caroline Stinson of the Cassatt; and pianist Ida Trebicka, assistant professor of piano in the Setnor School of Music.
More than 500 people from the University and Central New York communities attended the gala opening of the Brahms Festival on Oct. 22. The Brahms Festival will continue throughout the 2002-03 academic year with concerts, community seminars, the Brown Bag Lunch Series at Borders Books and Music-which are all free and open to the public-and semester-length, interdisciplinary course offerings for SU students during both the fall and spring semesters.

Regarded as one of America's outstanding string ensembles and currently the quartet-in-residence at Syracuse University, the Cassatt String Quartet has performed throughout North America, Europe and the Far East, with prestigious appearances at New York's Alice Tully Hall and the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, the Tanglewood Music Theater, the Kennedy Center and Maeda Hall in Tokyo.
Karpoff, chair of the Keyboard Department in the Setnor School of Music, has performed in concert as a soloist and collaborative pianist throughout North America, Europe and Africa. He has played at the Rutgers Summerfest, the Skaneateles and Siena (Italy) music festivals and in recitals on public radio stations throughout the United States. He has collaborated with the Cassatt Quartet, Larry Combs, Eric Ruske, the Los Angeles Piano Quartet and the New World and Chicago String Quartets.
Albanian-born and raised pianist Trebicka has performed in Europe and the United States as a soloist with various orchestras, a recitalist and a chamber musician. She is the recipient of numerous prizes, awards, scholarships and fellowships, including the gold medal in her country's most prestigious National Piano Competition and the piano prize in the Civic Morning Musicals Competition for singers.
Krehbiel has performed internationally and has attended the Aspen Music festival. He is active in the Society for New Music and the Syracuse Camerata and has taught violin and chamber music at the Interlochen Arts Academy.
