Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music will showcase its musical talent at the annual Music Prism Concert on Nov. 6. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College.
This unique performance takes place in a pitch-black auditorium, with performers scattered among the rows of seats. Spotlights are used to highlight each performer as he or she plays.
"The most interesting part of the concert is also the most challenging to arrange," says co-producer Sarah Schaffner, a third-year music industry student in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. "The arrangement of all the different instruments around the auditorium is very complicated, but it makes for a very unique musical experience."
Among others, the performance will include voice student Andrea Del Piano, singing "When Sunny Gets Blue," a jazz song composed by Fisher and Segal; the SU guitar quartet, playing Leo Brouwer's "Toccata;" and the SU woodwind quintet, performing "Pastoral, Opus 21," composed by Vincent Persichetti. Performers were selected for the concert by their private instructors. The concert is free and open to the public. Parking is offered in the Irving and University Avenue Garages on a space-available basis.
