CMS encounters problems installing new e-mail server

October 31, 2003

The Oct. 28 attempt to upgrade the University's e-mail system with a new and more powerful mailbox server was unsuccessful. The new server, which will be able to handle four to five times more e-mail than the current server, is an essential component of the University's plan to install powerful anti-spam filtering software called Brightmail.

Therefore, the planned Oct. 29 installation of Brightmail has also been postponed. Updates on the project will continue to be available on the CMS Web site at http://cms.syr.edu. Information about Brightmail is available on the CMS IT News Web site at http://cms.syr.edu/technews.
