Anthony D. King, the Bartle Professor of Art History and Sociology at Binghamton University, will lecture at Syracuse University's School of Architecture, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. in the Sue Ann Genet Auditorium, Room 108 of Slocum Hall. The lecture, titled "Building Global Worlds: Architecture and Myths of Globalization," is free and open to the public.
King is the author of "Spaces of Global Cultures: Architecture Urbanism Identity" and the editor of "Re-Presenting the City: Ethnicity, Capital and Culture in the 21st-Century Metropolis." He has contributed to many academic journals and books, including articles in "Postcolonial Urbanism: Southeast Asian Cities and Globalization" and "Urbanism: Exported or Imported: Native Aspirations and Foreign Plans." He also co-edits Architext, an academic journal that seeks to bridge the gap between social and cultural theory and the study and practice of architecture and urban design.
Before joining the faculty at Binghamton in 1988, King held appointments at the University of California, Berkeley and the Indian Institute of Technology at Delhi. In 1999, he received Binghamton University's Award for Excellence in Research. He holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. from Brunel University in London.
