In advance of the play's opening at Syracuse Stage, the Syracuse University Drama Department will stage scenes from "Women of Lockerbie" Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. at the Westcott Community Center. The event is free and open to the public. The Westcott Community Center is located at 826 Euclid Ave. in Syracuse.
"Women of Lockerbie," a play written by Deborah Brevoort, is based on the true story of how the people of Lockerbie, Scotland, recovered personal items belonging to their loved ones after the 1988 bombing of PanAm Flight 103. The play will be directed by Joan Hart Willard, assistant professor in the drama department, and will star SU drama students.
SU has maintained close ties with the community of Lockerbie, having lost 35 students in the bombing. Eleven Lockerbie residents were also killed.
"Women of Lockerbie" will be staged in its entirety at the BlackBox Theater at Syracuse Stage from Nov. 12-Dec. 4. Tickets are free but donations will be accepted. For more information, contact the box office at (315) 443-3275.
