Michael Dennis, principal of Michael Dennis and Associates, will speak at Syracuse University on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at 7 p.m. The event is the School of Architecture's Werner Seligmann Lecture, and will take place in 108 Slocum Hall; it is free and open to the public.
Dennis, a professor of urban design and theory at MIT, is a 1962 graduate of The University of Oregon. His firm is known for its institutional work, including SU's Science/Technology Center, The Performing Arts Center at Emory University and several buildings at Carnegie Mellon. The firm's design for the Art Museum for the University of California at Santa Barbara received first prize in a national design competition.
Dennis's lecture is titled "Numbers, Shapes and Other Peculiarities." His publications include "Court and Garden: From the French Hotel to the City of Modern Architecture," and his firm has won several awards from the American Institute of Architects.
