The Raymond Carver Reading Series continues this semester with a poetry reading by Larissa Szporluk on Oct. 22. The reading starts at 5:45 p.m. in Gifford Auditorium, located in Huntington Beard Crouse Hall, and is free and open to the public. Visitor parking is available on a paid, space-available basis in the Irving and University Avenue garages.
Szporluk is the author of three books of poetry, "Dark Sky Question" (Beacon Press, 1998), winner of the Barnard Poetry Prize; "Isolato" (University of Iowa Press, 2000), winner of the Iowa Poetry Prize; and "The Wind, Master Cherry, the Wind" (Alice James Books, 2003). She has been published in Daedalus, Faultline, Meridian, and Black Warrior Review, and her poems have been anthologized in "Best American Poetry 1999," "Best of Beacon 1999," "New American Voices" and "Young American Poets."
In addition to a 1998 Rona Jaffe Writers Award, Szporluk has received a National Endowment for the Awards Award in Poetry for 2003-04, and received a 2003-04 OAC Individual Award for Poetry. She teaches at Bowling Green University.
