Former U.S. ambassador Curtis W. Kamman will speak on "Colombia: Drugs, Violence & the Prospects for Peace," Oct. 21 at 4:30 p.m. in the Public Events Room, 220 Eggers Hall. The lecture is part of the Global Policies Lecture Series, sponsored by Maxwell's Global Affairs Institute.
Kamman served as the U.S. ambassador to Colombia from 1997-2000. He also headed U.S. embassies in Chile and Bolivia. He is now a visiting instructor at Notre Dame University.
Drawing on his experiences in the country, Kamman will discuss the current situation in Colombia, concentrating on problems stemming from drug trafficking, the Colombian government's efforts to combat guerilla groups and its attempts to engage them in a peace negotiation.
