Three Syracuse University music students will perform recitals on March 1 and 2 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in the University's Crouse College. The recitals are free and open to the public. The recital schedule is listed below.
March 1 at 2 p.m.: An oboe recital by graduate student Katherine Youmell will include works by Marcello, Poulenc, Bozza, Vaughn, Williams and the premier of a piece written by Debra Stempien, a graduate of Susquehanna University and the University of Michigan and Yamaha Young Performing Artist Award winner. The Stempien piece, "The Sideshow March," was written exclusively for oboe and saxophone. Accompanying Youmell during the recital will be Jillian Parkhurst on saxophone, Xiaoce Sun on bassoon and Sar Shalom Strong on piano.
March 1 at 5 p.m.: A bassoon recital by junior music education major Sheila E. Stanton will include works by Bessozzi, David and Shaw. Stanton is a member of the David Ross Bassoon Studio, the SU Wind Ensemble, the Marching Band, Tau Beta Sigma and is president of Sigma Alpha Iota.
March 2 at 2 p.m.: An oboe recital by junior Laura Sutak will include works by Vivaldi, Rietz and Hanson.
