Wei-Yi Yang, associate professor in Syrcause University's Rose, Jules R. and Sanford S. Setnor School of Music, will perform a piano recital Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. The recital will take place in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College. It is free and open to the public.
Yang will perform works by Mendelssohn and Rachmaninov, as well as a composition by Daniel Godfrey, professor in the Setnor School. Yang will also play Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition."
Originally from Taiwan, Yang has performed on four continents. He is the winner of the gold medal in the Fifth San Antonio International Piano Competition. Yang has collaborated with members of some of the world's finest ensembles such as London Symphony, San Francisco Opera, St. Paul Chamber, Orquestra do Estado de Sao Paolo, and the Pittsburgh and Minnesota Orchestras.
Yang has appeared at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.; the Festival Internacional de Piano "Sala Beethoven" in Monterrey, Mexico; the "Music at the Vineyard" chamber music festival in Napa Valley, California; and the 2004 "Isidor Bajic" Piano Memorial Festival in Serbia and Montenegro, where he also presented master classes and adjudicated the festival's international competition. Having recently recorded for NPR and the Renegade Classics label, Yang will make appearances in Boston, South Korea, China, and Lincoln Center's Alive Tully Hall during 2005 and 2006.
Yang holds a doctorate in musical arts by Yale University.
