Syracuse University's College of Law will host Randy Barnett, the Austin B. Fletcher Professor at the Boston University School of Law, Oct. 29 at 11:45 a.m. Barnett's lecture, titled "Restoring the Lost Constitution: The Presumption of Liberty" will take place in Grant Auditorium in White Hall.
Barnett is a former criminal prosecutor for the Cook County State's Attorney's Office in Chicago. He is the author of "The Structure of Liberty: Justice and the Rule of Law," which received the Ralph Gregory Elliot Book Award in 1998. He is also the author of "Restoring the Lost Constitution: The Presumption of Liberty," "Contracts, Cases and Doctrine" and "Perspectives on Contract Law."
Barnett represents pro bono the Oakland Cannabis Cooperative in an action involving the right to use marijuana for medical purposes. He also represents pro bono a woman in her suit against United States Attorney General John Ashcroft to be allowed to use marijuana for medical reasons. He regularly lectures at the Institute for Justice, a public-interest legal services organization in Washington, D.C.
He is a graduate of Northwestern University and Harvard Law School. His lecture is free and open to the public. Paid visitor parking is offered on a space-available basis in the Irving and University Avenue Garages.
