Los Angeles-based yoga authority Tara Guber '65, founder of Yoga Ed, will visit Syracuse University Oct. 15 and offer open sessions on yoga and Yoga Ed. Guber will conduct a presentation on her "Yoga Ed-Tools for Teachers" program at 3:30 p.m. and an open yoga class session at 5 p.m. The programs will be offered in the Alumnae Lounge and dance studio in the Women's Building, 820 Comstock Ave. The events are free and open to the public.

Yoga Ed is a K-8 children's yoga program aimed at increasing students' self-esteem, good behavior, physical fitness and academic performance. Her goal was to create a model school with yoga and meditation in the curriculum. The Yoga Ed program has been implemented at the Accelerated School in Los Angeles, resulting in positive feedback and research outcomes. It is now in its third year.

The Yoga Ed Tools for Teachers Program has been designed to train schoolteachers how to use yoga-based techniques in their classrooms as health, behavior and curriculum enhancements. The program has grown geographically and has been implemented in Aspen, Colo. and The Bronx, N.Y. The Tools for Teachers sessions are now offered nationwide.

Tara holds a BS from SU's School of Education and has been practicing yoga for more than 25 years. Her visit is sponsored by SU's School of Education.
