On Oct. 6, Syracuse University's Community Design Center (CDC) will host a community workshop at 6 p.m. at the White Memorial Library, 2nd Floor.
The workshop will provide the opportunity for members of the community to voice their concerns about the future of the neighborhood, especially the Butternut Street area, which is the focus of study.
The CDC is currently working with the City of Syracuse, Department of Neighborhood Planning, Home Headquarters and community groups on the North Side to study that neighborhood. The goal of the study is to develop a vision for Butternut Street, beginning at Salina Street and extending past the White Library. The CDC will address issues related to the formal construction of the street and economic development.
The objectives of the study are to construct a vision for the neighborhood that includes: A plan that identifies where buildings should be retained or demolished; where new construction should be encouraged; a phasing plan that will suggest a sequence for construction and investment; a precinct program/use proposal; and a zoning proposal to regulate lots, setbacks, building bulk and building materials.
