Douglas Humpherys, associate professor of piano at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, will present "Informance" at 1 p.m. March 1 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in Syracuse University's Crouse College. The program is free and open to the public.
An informance is a program that includes musical information as well as performances. Humpherys' "Informance" will include performances by pianists from the keyboard department in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in SU's College of Visual and Performing Arts, along with a brief master class and a conversation with the audience.
Humpherys has presented concerts in Canada, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan and throughout the United States. He has appeared with numerous orchestras as a guest, and his concerts have been aired on many National Public Radio affiliates. Humpherys has presented concerts, lectures and master classes at the South Bohemia Music Festival, the European Piano Teachers Association conference, the MTNA national convention, the National Conference on Piano Pedagogy, the Festival of the American Liszt Society, and at more than 30 universities.
Winner of the inaugural Gina Bachauer Competition in 1976, Humpherys is a founding member of the American Piano Quartet and has been a juror for the Bachauer Competition (1994-2000). He has studied with Nelita True, Martin Canin and Robert Smith.
