Faculty, staff and students are invited to nominate candidates to receive honorary degrees at the 2005 Commencement ceremony. The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees has set Oct. 15 as the deadline for receipt of all nominations.
Members of the University community who wish to nominate honorary degree candidates should send letters of recommendation, explaining the basis for honoring the individual and referring to the selection criteria whenever possible; copies of the nominees' resumes; and additional information such as letters of support or materials that attest to the eminence of the candidate. Nominations should not exceed eight pages.
The Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees will review all nominations and recommend final candidates to the University Senate, which will make a final decision on degree recipients. Some honorary degree recipients may be invited to present colloquia during Commencement Weekend.
Nominations should be submitted to the co-chairs of the Senate Committee on Honorary Degrees: Judy O'Rourke, senior administrator in the Office of the Vice President of Undergraduate Studies; and Eric F. Spina, dean of the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. Nominations should be sent in care of The Office of the Vice President for Undergraduate Studies, 304 Steele Hall.
