The new Syracuse University Web portal, MySlice of Syracuse University, will be available to the entire University community starting on Sept. 29. Located at http://myslice.syr.edu, the portal will be the virtual gateway for student course registration; for faculty, staff and students to review their paychecks or make changes in the addresses the University has on file for them; and for such University administrative information systems as PeopleSoft HRSA and Hyperion (Brio).
MySlice has been on the Web since May, when several hundred staff members began using the portal to access online reports and information housed in the University's data warehouse. MySlice will eventually take over many of the functions currently offered through the MySU Web portal. On Sept. 29, MySlice will replace S.C.O.R.E., the University's online course registration system. Everything students used to do with S.C.O.R.E., including registering for classes, printing class schedules and viewing grades, will be done through MySlice.
Also on Sept. 29, MySlice will become the single access point for the University's PeopleSoft HRSA and Hyperion administrative information systems. While the access point will change from First-Step Single SignOn (SSO) to MySlice, the information systems used by staff, including payroll, student records, admissions, financial aid, and human resources and benefits, will remain much the same. Over time, additional online services for faculty, staff and students will be offered through MySlice.
"We see this as a major step toward unifying online access to several University computing systems," says Deborah Nosky, manager of client support and information for Computing and Media Services (CMS). "By bringing all the systems together under one umbrella, clients will no longer have to remember multiple passwords or re-enter passwords as they move between systems."
In order to use MySlice and access the Web-based information and services that will be available through the portal, all faculty, staff and students will need to have activated their University NetID and password. NetIDs are automatically created for all incoming students, as well as for new faculty and staff. Current students, faculty and staff members who have access to any SU computing resources also already have a NetID, formerly known as the CMS Account username and password. Information about activating the NetID is available on the Computing and Media Services (CMS) Computing Access Web site at http://cms.syr.edu/accounts. Click on the "Activate Now!" button on the left and follow the instructions.
