Pop sensation and hip-hop artist Tweet comes to Syracuse University Sept. 20 as the headline act at the Coming Back Together VII concert. The show begins at 8 p.m. in Goldstein Auditorium of the Schine Student Center.
Opening for Tweet is Dani Stevenson, a rising new hip-hop and R&B star whose debut album, "Is There Another?," has received tremendous praise from critics across the country.
Tweet is a multidimensional artist who brings a sound that is a mixture of old school soul and new school hip-hop attitude. She is a vocalist, songwriter, musician and producer, an accomplished drummer and acoustic guitarist.
Her debut album, "Southern Hummingbird," was released earlier this year. It deals with the range of emotions and spiritual essence of a woman coming of age. Her first single, "Oops (Oh My)," a song that describes her newfound womanhood, features clever wordplay at its best, about the day a woman gets in tune with herself physically and emotionally. The rest of the album ranges from the heart wrenching, sultry love song "Best Friend," a duet with R&B sensation Bilal, to the funky hip-hop dance grooves of "Boogie 2 Nite," to the songs that show Tweet at her most riveting, with an acoustic guitar - the passionate, edgy and thoughtful "Complain" and "Motel."
The voice and music of 22-year-old Dani Stevenson pays homage to her eclectic cast of influences and styles. The fingerprints of Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughn, Donnie Hathaway, Whitney Houston and Robert Flack can be heard in her debut album. Stevenson goes where few artists have dared to go, sprinkling bits of jazz-inspired vocals over modern-day hip-hop beats.
