The Syracuse University Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble will present a concert at 8 p.m. March 5 in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium in SU's Crouse College. The concert, part of the Setnor Tuesday Night Concert Series, is free and open to the public.
The Symphony Band, under the direction of Bradley P. Ethington, associate director of SU Bands, will perform works by Smetana, Brahms, Jacob and Williams. The Wind Ensemble, under the direction of John Laverty, director of SU Bands, will perform works by Copeland, Milhaud, Jenkins, Iannaccone and a remembrance piece written by Kimberley K. Archer G'00, an alumna of the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
The Symphony Band is a non-audition concert band open to student musicians across the University, offering them an opportunity to perform outstanding large band works in a concert setting. The Wind Ensemble is Syracuse University's premiere auditioned concert band and is composed of musicians from within the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, College of Visual and Performing Arts. The ensemble performs literature ranging from the largest symphonic works, requiring all of its performers, to "one-on-a-part" chamber works calling for eight to 24 performers.
