As part of the 2007-08 season of Syracuse University's Pulse performing arts series, the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra (SSO) will present a free concert Monday, Oct. 1, at 8 p.m. in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, Crouse College. No tickets are required. Public parking is available in SU pay lots.
The orchestra will appear under the direction of SSO music director Daniel Hege. Philippe Quint will perform on violin. Selections include Henryk Wieniawski's "Concerto No. 2 in D Minor for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 22," Jean Sibelius' "Symphony No. 1 in E Minor, Op. 39" and Joseph Downing's "Morning at Ten-Mile Point." Downing (above, right) is associate professor of theory and composition in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music in SU's College of Visual and Performing Arts (VPA).
"The Syracuse Symphony is one of the country's finest orchestras, and it's always exciting to have one's music played by a top-rate ensemble," says Downing. "To have them perform in Setnor, where the exceptional acoustics allow you to hear so clearly, is a special treat."
The SSO, Central and Northern New York's fully professional resident orchestra, performs 200 full-orchestra and chamber ensemble concerts throughout the region during its 39-week season. For more information,
