Filmmaker Michael Snow will present his films and talk about his work in video, photography, sculpture, painting, piano and books at Syracuse University, Sept. 22-23.
On Sept. 22 at 2 p.m., in the Shemin Auditorium of the Shaffer Art Building, Snow will present his latest film, "Triage"-a dual 16mm projection made in collaboration with filmmaker Carl Brown, with sound composition by John Kamevaar. Snow will introduce the work and be available for a discussion following the screening. The screening and discussion are free and open to the public.
On Sept. 23, at 2:30 p.m, Snow will talk about his extensive exploration of media in 121 Shaffer Art Building. The presentation is free and open to the public, but seating is limited
At 8 p.m. on Sept. 23, in the Gifford Auditorium of Huntington Beard Crouse Hall, Snow will present his films "New York Eye and Ear Control" (1964), "Wavelength" (1967) and "See You Later/Au Revoir"(1990). Snow will introduce the films and be available for a discussion following the screening. The screening and discussion are free and open to the public.
Born in Toronto, Snow is a filmmaker, musician, visual artist, composer, writer and sculptor and is widely considered Canada's best-known living artist. He studied at the Ontario College of Art and had his first solo exhibition in 1957. Since then, his work has appeared at exhibitions in every major art center in Europe and North America, and his films have been shown at retrospectives and film festivals in the United States, Australia, Japan, the Netherlands, France, Austria and Italy.
Snow's visit to campus is sponsored by the Department of Art Media Studies, the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and the SU Student Association.
