Following is the latest information, as of midday Thursday, from Syracuse University of campus activities in response to Tuesday's terrorist incidents.
Chancellor's Afternoon Briefing at Hendricks Chapel and on the Web
Chancellor Shaw's afternoon briefing to the University community will take place at 3 p.m. today in Hendricks Chapel. It will also be available live on the Web, off of the University home page (http://www.syracuse.edu).
Clothing Urgently Needed for NYC Rescue Workers
Rescue workers in New York City are in dire need of sweatsocks and T-shirts of all sizes because they are required to change their clothing on an hourly basis. The clothing need not be brand new but should be clean. Two campus locations have been established where members of the University community can contribute to this vital effort. Three bins are in Hendricks Chapel and four bins are in the Schine Student Center. Collection will begin immediately and will conclude at 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14.
Opportunity to Reflect Offered on the Web, in the Syracuse Record
Members of the University community are invited to offer their reflections on Tuesday's tragedies in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania to be shared with others who are affected by what has happened. Those who would like to share their feelings are invited to send expressions to the following e-mail address: SUNews@syr.edu . Individuals are asked to provide name and hometown or place of current residence (e.g.: Fayetteville, Solvay, etc.). Messages will be posted on a special page of the Syracuse University News site (http://sunews.syr.edu) and will be printed in an upcoming issue of the Syracuse Record.
"Sheets of Expression" Have Moved Indoors
The Student Association's "Sheets of Expression" project has moved indoors, to Hendricks Chapel and to The Underground in the Schine Student Center, due to today's inclement weather.
White Ribbons Available Indoors
Also due to today's rain, the white ribbons offered in support of the terrorism victims by the College of Human Services and Health Professions are no longer being handed out on the steps of Hendricks Chapel. The ribbons are available at 320 Hinds, in Steele Hall, and in the Schine and Goldstein student centers.
Hendricks Chapel Interfaith Service Tonight
All students, faculty and staff are invited to attend "Standing Together: An Interfaith Response To Terrorism and Violence" at 8 p.m. today in Hendricks Chapel. The SU chaplains will lead the interfaith service of prayers and spoken reflections responding to the impact of terrorism on the people of the world.
Vigils Have Large Turnout
A candlelight vigil held in front of Hendricks Chapel Wednesday night was attended by an estimated 2,000 members of the Syracuse University community. Earlier Wednesday, a candlelight vigil at ESF was attended by 350 people.
Academic Assistance Available to Students
In addition to other efforts in support of students during this period, the Division of Student Support and Retention, which offers a variety of academic services, shares with the University deep compassion for those directly affected by the apparent terrorist incidents in Washington, D.C., New York City, and Pennsylvania. Students who are experiencing emotional stress or who are having difficulty meeting their academic demands may call the Division for assistance. Academic counselors are available to listen and make appropriate referrals to other campus support services. They will also assist students to develop an action plan and follow their issues through to a suitable resolution.

Women's Soccer vs. Albany, Florida Canceled
The women's soccer game between Syracuse University and the University at Albany scheduled for tonight at the Soccer Stadium at the Lampe Athletics Complex has been canceled. Sunday's soccer contest against the University of Florida has also been canceled. There will be no make-up date for the Florida game. A make-up date for the Albany game has yet to be determined.
Student Centers Revert to Normal Hours
The Schine and Goldstein student centers have now returned to normal hours: open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to midnight, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to midnight.
Maxwell Blood Drive a Success
A total of 106 people gave blood at the Maxwell School blood drive that ran from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday. Peggy Austin, business manager in the Center for Policy Research, who coordinated the drive, said more than 3,000 people tried to give blood, with most being directed to other drives going on in the community over the next week.
Parking Free for Sunday Blood Donors
For anyone planning on donating blood Sunday at the OnCenter in downtown Syracuse, parking is FREE across from the center. Doors open at 9 a.m.
Syracuse Stage Reschedules First Preview of "A Streetcar Named
Desire"
In light of Tuesday's terrorist acts, Syracuse Stage has postponed the first preview performance of "A Streetcar Named Desire." The 7:30 p.m. performance scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 19, has been changed to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.17. All subscribers and single ticket holders will have their tickets honored on that date. The director of "Streetcar," Charlie Hensley, was detoured by plane groundings, and Jordan Matter, who plays Mitch, was unable to leave Manhattan. "In essence, the company has lost two days of rehearsal," says Producing Director James A. Clark. "They need more time to continue work on the show." "A Streetcar Named Desire" will hold its regularly scheduled preview performance on Thursday, Sept. 20, with the opening on Friday, Sept. 21. The show runs through Oct. 20.
Lubin House Update
The staff at Lubin House is not able to make long distance telephone calls to campus. If you need to speak with any staff members there, please keep trying or try contacting them via e-mail. They are unable to return voice mail messages.
Residence Halls Plan Thursday Night Activities
Several events are scheduled tonight in campus residence halls in response to Tuesday's incidents. Flint Residence Hall: Chalking of the Flint Sidewalk, Thursday from 4:30 to 7 p.m.; students can write their thoughts/feelings, etc. Day Residence Hall: at 9 p.m. the Day Hall Study Lounge will be a Quiet Reflection Room. It will also be Movie Night in the Day TV Lounge, with movies at 8 and 10 p.m. Booth Residence Hall is having a Ribbon Awareness Campaign; students and staff are assembling ribbons and writing quotes on cards. Dell Plain Residence Hall: Living Words of Expression, throughout the day in the Dell Plain Main Lobby; students have a chance to writer their thoughts and feelings on long sheets of butcher paper. At 7 p.m., whatever was written on these sheets will be discussed openly in the main lounge with facilitators. Kimmel/Marion Halls: Pizza, wings, soda, drinks and a movie will be offered in the lounge at 7 p.m; a time of reflection will be offered, and students will be able to write on sheets of expression. Shaw Residence Hall: A time of reflection will be offered in the main lobby at 8:30 p.m. Lawrinson Residence Hall: A time of self-expression will be offered in the second-floor lounge from 6 to 8 p.m.; then from 8:30 to 10 p.m., a "candle of hope" will be "lit," with the residence hall windows illuminated in a special pattern. Sadler Residence Hall: The Multifunction Room will be open from 4 to 10 p.m. for expressive arts. Papers, paints, clay, chalks, markers, crayons, glue, scissors, tissue paper, journal paper and pens will be provided for students to express their reactions in a visible, tangible way. With the students' permission, the works will then be hung in the hall lobby for others to reflect upon.
