Jill Curran, a Santa Clara University student studying this fall in Syracuse University's London program, died Sept. 13 from injuries sustained three days earlier when she was struck by a bus while crossing a London street.
Curran, 20, from Seattle, Wash., was a junior marketing major and one of 17 Santa Clara students studying at SU's Division of International Programs Abroad (DIPA) center in London. She is survived by her parents, John and Judy Curran, of Seattle, and two sisters, Jodie of Mountain View, Calif., and Jennifer of Seattle.
"Jill Curran was a committed student, eager to learn from the many opportunities provided by study abroad," says Ronald R. Cavanagh, SU vice president for undergraduate studies. "No words can express our shock and sadness at her loss."
A memorial service in London will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17, at noon in Our Lady Queen of Heaven Church. The Rev. Thomas V. Wolfe, dean of SU's Hendricks Chapel, and Michael Weiler, a counselor and resident minister at Santa Clara will co-officiate the service and throughout the week will hold several counseling sessions with students.
SU's London staff is making housing accommodations for those Santa Clara students studying at SU's Madrid (28) and Florence (38) centers who wish to attend the memorial service in London.
