A Santa Clara University student studying this fall in Syracuse University's London program was severely injured early Tuesday morning (London time) when she was struck by a bus while crossing a street.
Jill Curran, 20, is in the intensive care unit at London's National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery. Curran suffered severe head trauma and was initially treated at St. Mary's Hospital in Paddington. It will be several days before the full extent of her injuries is known.
Curran, from Seattle, Wash., is a first-semester junior at Santa Clara and is one of 17 Santa Clara students studying at SU's Division of International Programs Abroad (DIPA) center in London. A total of 157 students are based at the center this semester.
DIPA's London staff is counseling the Santa Clara and other students, and is keeping them apprised of Curran's condition. DIPA officials in Syracuse have been in contact with Santa Clara administrators and with Curran's parents. Her father has arrived in London, and her mother is expected to arrive Wednesday morning.
