A 2004 Volvo station wagon belonging to Syracuse University Professor Steven Brechin and Chancellor Nancy Cantor and reported missing Aug. 22 has been recovered.
A city resident contacted the Syracuse Police Department Monday night (Aug. 30) and stated that she had noticed a car matching the stolen vehicle's description in a parking lot.
The police contacted SU's Department of Public Safety, which responded to the scene and verified that it was in fact the stolen vehicle.
"Steve and I are thrilled, of course, that the car has been recovered," Cantor says. "We are very impressed with how well the Syracuse University Department of Public Safety and the Syracuse Police Department worked together in this situation.
"I would also like to acknowledge the member of our community who was observant and thought to contact the police when she saw a car that matched the description. We are thankful that she took action."
The car was reported stolen from the Chancellor's residence driveway on the morning of Sunday, Aug. 22. No suspects have been identified. The investigation is continuing.
Anyone with information about the theft of the vehicle is encouraged to contact the Syracuse Police Department at 442-5200 or SU's Department of Public Safety at 443-2224.
