A memorial service for Samuel M. Fetters, professor emeritus in Syracuse University's College of Law, will be held Monday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
Fetters died in Syracuse on Aug. 21 after a long illness. He was 76.
Fetters joined the College of Law in 1966. During his tenure, he was the Crandall Melvin Professor of Estates and Future Interests. He was an expert in property and future interest and taught in the areas of administration of criminal justice, constitutional law, domestic relations and professional responsibility. Fetters retired from the College of Law in 1993.
Prior to joining SU, Fetters taught at Ohio Northern University College of Law and the University of Arkansas School of Law. While in Arkansas, he served on the state's advisory committee to the United States Commission on Civil Rights.
He also served as a member of the Test Drafting Committee of the Multi-State Bar Examination, National Conference of Bar Examiners. Fetters served as an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union and president of Onondaga Neighborhood Legal Services.
