Syracuse Stage artistic director Robert Moss will be hosting general auditions for local Equity and Non-Equity actors on Aug. 21, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Joining Moss will be Associate Artistic Director Michael Donald Edwards and a number of local directors of community theaters throughout the area.
"I think this was a great opportunity for all of the local talent to come together and audition jointly, not only for Syracuse Stage, but also for the great community theater directors in our town," notes Moss.
In addition to the general auditions, Moss will be looking specifically for two African-American actors, one male and one female, to perform in Syracuse Stage's holiday presentation of the SU Drama Department's production of "Big River." Edwards also will be auditioning for several roles in "The Grapes of Wrath."
Auditionees should note that both productions include a significant number of morning student matinees in addition to evening performances. To schedule an audition appointment, call (315) 443-4008.
All actors should bring a picture and resume, and be prepared to present two contrasting two-minute monologues. Singers should bring their own music and be prepared to sing a song of their choice. An accompanist will be provided.
"Big River" rehearsals will begin Tuesday, Nov. 2, with afternoon and evening rehearsals Tuesdays through Sundays. Technical rehearsals will be over Thanksgiving weekend (Nov. 24, 26, 27 and 28); performances begin Nov. 30 and run through Jan. 9, 2005. There are 17 10:30 a.m. school performances and 29 public performances currently scheduled.
The first rehearsal for "The Grapes of Wrath" will be Tuesday, March 15, 2005; technical rehearsals are on March 18, 19 and 20. "The Grapes of Wrath" comes to Syracuse from Indiana Repertory Theatre, and local actors will be worked in with the professional company during this week. The show runs March 22 through April 23. There are 16 10:30 a.m. school performances and 24 public performances currently scheduled.
