Syracuse University Project Advance was one of four programs accredited by the National Alliance of Concurrent Enrollment Partnerships (NACEP) at the annual NACEP Board of Directors meeting. NACEP accreditation recognizes SU Project Advance as one of the premier institutions in the nation offering college courses to high school students.
NACEP's national standards are based on quality of curriculum, faculty, student achievement, and assessment and program evaluation. In order to be certified, programs must document that their program offers the same courses offered on campus, that teachers are qualified and carefully trained to teach college-level courses, that students are held to the same standards as the on-campus students, that campus faculty oversee the courses and that the program engages in systematic self-evaluation.
SU Project Advance currently enrolls approximately 5300 students in 128 high schools across five states: New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Maine and Michigan. SU faculty and staff work with more than 550 teachers who are certified as adjunct SU instructors.
"Concurrent enrollment links schools and colleges in ways that other advanced programs do not. It provides students with the skills and knowledge to successfully transition from high school to college, teaching them how to learn, not how to ace the test. We don't see NACEP accreditation as an end, but rather as the beginning of a national movement to recognize one of the most successful high school reforms in the history of this country," says Gerald Edmonds, director of SU Project Advance.
