University Avenue is scheduled to be closed temporarily from East Adams Street to Marshall Street, beginning Monday, Aug. 2, at 7 a.m. The closing is expected to be in effect for four days to accommodate contractor R.H. Law's work on the new building for Syracuse University's Martin J. Whitman School of Management.

The City of Syracuse has issued a permit for the closing; the contractor has been asked to post "Road Closed" and "Detour" signs to guide motorists around the area.

The closing will affect local traffic as follows:

  • University Avenue between Harrison Street and East Adams Street will be limited to local traffic only.

  • Motorists on University Avenue will only be allowed access to Waverly Avenue by turning left onto East Adams Street and right onto Walnut Place, both of which are one-way streets.

Pedestrian traffic will be little affected; pedestrian traffic will be permitted to flow through the closed area, and pedestrian access to the University Avenue entrances of Marshall Square Mall and University College will remain open.

According to SU's Office of Design and Construction, motorists should try to find alternate routes during the closing to avoid University Avenue. For more information, call SU News Services at (315) 443-3784.
