Charles V. Willie, professor emeritus of education at Harvard University and former vice president of student affairs at Syracuse University, will deliver the keynote lecture, "Community of Soul and the Soul of Community," at the Syracuse University Library Associates spring luncheon, May 13 in the Hildegarde and J. Myer Schine Student Center.

The luncheon program, which builds on the inaugural year theme, "University as Public Good: Exploring the Soul of Syracuse," concludes the library's inaugural year activity and will also feature the presentation of the Mary Hatch Marshall Award for the best graduate student essay in the humanities.
Willie is well known in Syracuse for his more than 25 years service to the University that include serving as vice president of Student Affairs, and also as professor and chair of the Department of Sociology in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs. He is a noted civil rights advocate and sociologist, and the author of 25 books and more than 100 articles in the fields of education, health, race relations, urban studies and family relations.
