In preparation for the International Association of Philosophy and Literature Conference (IAPL), Syracuse University's School of Architecture will feature an exhibition of designs for the new Guangdong Museum, located in Guangzhou, China. The exhibition of designs by Eisenman Architects will run from April 28-May 28 and is in the School of Architecture Gallery, 103 Slocum Hall.
Marta Caldeira, Eisenman project designer for the Guangdong competition, will speak at the School of Architecture on May 4. Caldeira's lecture will begin at 5:30 p.m. in 108 Slocum Hall. It is free and open to the public. Eisenman Architects was among nine entries from seven countries that submitted designs to the Guangdong Museum competition.
The IAPL conference, titled "Virtual Materialities," will be held at SU and Le Moyne College, May 19-25. Peter Eisenman, the Irwin S. Chanin Distinguished Professor of Architecture at The Cooper Union in New York City, will be one of several keynote speakers at the conference and will also be part of a panel moderated by philosopher Tom Brockelman. The lecture will be on May 23 and the roundtable the following day.
"The IAPL conference returns to the United States for the first time in three years," says Brown. "It has become a leading venue for contemporary interdisciplinary debates in a wide range of fields concentrating on the interrelationships between philosophy and visual and literary arts. 'Virtual Materialites' will examine the complex relationships between the virtual and material in contemporary culture."
