The Collegiate Science and Technology and Entry Program (CSTEP) at Syracuse University has selected seven students to participate in the 2004 Academic Research and Internship in Science and Engineering (ARISE) Academy. ARISE is one of CSTEP's signature initiatives, providing internship and research experiences for students. The mission of ARISE is to support, prepare and retain well-rounded scholars for professional achievement and post-baccalaureate education.
"The ARISE Academy provides scholars with a unique opportunity to not only pursue research or internship experiences, but to also engage in a seminar, take coursework and participate in yearlong activities that promote success," says Nicole Zervas, Coordinator of Academic Services. According to Zervas, these activities are designed to develop students, helping them make important, balanced life choices.
"Our ARISE scholars are among CSTEP's best and brightest, and it is an honor to work so closely with them," says Larry Thomas, associate director for CSTEP. To participate in the ARISE Academy, students must be CSTEP participants with at least a 2.75 cumulative GPA in their major areas of study.
The following students were chosen as 2004 ARISE scholars: Eunis Bello of Bronx, N.Y, a sophomore majoring in biology; Paul Dimoh of South Ozone Park, N.Y., a junior majoring in information management technology; Suzetta Nash of Amityville, N.Y., a sophomore majoring in biology and pre-dentistry; Rebeca Oliver of Syracuse, N.Y., a sophomore majoring in psychology; Robin Richards of Troy, N.Y., a sophomore majoring in computer engineering; Jamel Tingman of Brooklyn, N.Y., a junior majoring in marketing and entrepreneurship and emerging enterprises; and Lien Tran of Ithaca, N.Y., a sophomore majoring in psychology.
