The Syracuse University Symphony Orchestra will perform its final concert of the semester, April 29 at 8 p.m. The concert will take place in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College. It is free and open to the public. Parking is available in Irving Garage.
James Tapia, associate professor in the Rose, Jules R. and Stanford S. Setnor School of Music, will conduct the orchestra. The first half of the evening's program, "Soloists and Virtuosity," will open with "Adagio for Strings" by Samuel Barber and conclude with the first movement of Edvard Grieg's "Concerto for Piano and Orchestra, Op. 16," featuring one of the two 2005 SU Concerto and Aria Competition winners, Boban Martic. The second half will feature the world premiere of recent Guggenheim Fellowship recipient, composer and SU faculty member Andrew Waggoner's "The Mountain Remains," featuring Caroline Stinson on cello; Charles Ives' "Putnam's Camp"; and Samuel Barber's "Toccata Festiva, Op. 36," featuring SU faculty member Christopher Marks on the auditorium's newly renovated organ.
