Syracuse University's College of Visual and Performing Arts will present "On the Town: Glimmerglass Opera in Concert," May 3 at 7 p.m., as part of the Setnor Tuesday Night Concert Series. The performance, featuring members of the Opera's Young American Artists program, will present excerpts from the 2005 festival season and other popular operas in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College. It is free and open to the public. Parking is available in the Irving Garage.
The program will include semi-staged arias and ensembles from Bernstein's "On the Town," "Candide," "West Side Story" and "Trouble in Tahiti;" Mozart's "Marriage of Figaro," "Cosi Fan Tutte" and "Don Giovanni;" and Britten's "Death in Venice," "Billy Budd" and "The Turn of the Screw."
Performers include sopranos Megan Besley and Donna Smith, mezzo-sopranos Sarah Williams and Laurel Cameron, tenors Chad A. Johnson and Phumzile Sojola, baritone Jesse Blumberg, bass Darren Kenneth Stokes and pianists Djordje S. Nesic and Valerie Trujillo. Eric Einhorn is stage director.
