Teenagers who "act out" with oppositional behavior will be the focus of a daylong workshop to be held Feb. 14 at Syracuse University's Goldstein Student Center on South Campus. The workshop, which is sponsored by the School of Social Work in SU's College of Human Services and Health Professions (HSHP), is being presented by Ona Cohn Bregman, CSW-R, ACSW, an associate professor in HSHP.
The workshop will explore the workings of parent-child "triangles." The social network triangles that adolescents are a part of will also be examined, as will the role of emotional process and variations in behavior. Participants will have an opportunity to consider ways of thinking about and working with these families. They will also discuss the options available when the families of these adolescents are not emotionally or physically available.
In addition to her work with HSHP, Ona Cohn Bregman has a private practice in systems psychotherapy and supervision. She received a master's degree from SU's School of Social Work in 1958 and completed the four-year core-training program in Family Systems Psychotherapy at the Center for Family Learning, New Rochelle, N.Y., in 1976. Bregman's special interests include variation in human behavior and the neurobiology of emotion.
