Syracuse University's Hendricks Chapel Choir and Handbell Ringers will present their annual Spring Concert on April 25 at 4 p.m. in Hendricks Chapel.
The concert, which is free and open to the public, will feature a variety of sacred music, including spirituals that the choir members performed in Sunday services in February in honor of Black History Month. The concert will also feature "Festival Te Deum" by British composer Benjamin Britten and a variety of anthems by 20th century composers.
The choir will be directed by G. Burton Harbison, director of choral studies and associate professor of voice in the Setnor School of Music in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. University Organist Christopher Marks will accompany the choir, and the Handbell Ringers will be directed by local teacher and SU alumna Jessica Bowerman '01.
"The audience will be treated to a wonderful program of great sacred choral music," says Harbison.
The 34-member Hendricks Chapel Choir performs at Protestant services at Hendricks Chapel every Sunday during the academic year, as well as two major concerts annually. The choir is planning a performance tour in China in May 2005.
