On April 26, Mary Jo White, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, will speak on civil liberties and the war on terrorism at the Syracuse University College of Law. The lecture begins at 11:45 a.m. in Room 200 MacNaughton Hall, the College of Law. Paid parking is available in the Irving Garage.
As a U.S. attorney, White oversaw the investigation and prosecution of numerous cases of national and international importance. Under her leadership, the office indicted Osama bin Laden and successfully prosecuted those responsible for the 1993 bombing of the World Trade Center; and the 1998 bombing of U.S. Embassies in Nairobi, Kenya, and Tanzania. Among her many awards are the George W. Bush Award for Excellence in Counterterrorism and the Agency Seal Medallion given by the Central Intelligence Agency.
Now a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton LLP, White is chair of the firm's litigation group. She specializes in Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement matters, major business litigation disputes and defending companies and individuals accused by the government of involvement in white-collar corporate crime.
