The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program at Syracuse University is announcing the availability of the In-College Scholarship Program (ICSP), a highly competitive scholarship program aimed at freshmen and sophomores in all major areas of study; and Express Scholarships, aimed primarily at students of engineering and related fields.
"The ICSP scholarships afford students the opportunity to attend SU with the ROTC paying for most if not all of their tuition and fees," says ROTC Captain Young-Il Han, associate professor of aerospace studies in the L.C. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. "They offer a monthly nontaxable stipend that allow our cadets to devote more time to their studies and extracurricular activities. It's a great deal - we pay their college costs and guarantee them a job with a competitive salary and benefits after they graduate."
To be eligible for nomination, applicants need not necessarily be ROTC cadets; however, they must meet several requirements including United States citizenship, qualification through Air Force ROTC physical and written testing and age limits.
Once the ROTC determines eligibility, SU students may apply for the scholarships in one of two phases: Phase I, which is open only to students enrolled as Air Force ROTC cadets; or Phase II, which is open to all students.
According to Han, the Air Force ROTC is also offering Express Scholarships as part of a program designed to produce ROTC officers in specific fields and year groups. These scholarships offer students up to $15,510 each year. Students interested in applying need not be ROTC cadets, but need to meet the same eligibility requirements as above, plus minimum GPA requirements.
