A one-day workshop sponsored by the School of Social Work in Syracuse University's College of Human Services and Health Professions will look at how social, psychological and physical processes affect aging and several related topics. The workshop will be held April 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Goldstein Student Center on SU's South Campus. The registration deadline for the workshop is April 11. The workshop is designed to help participants understand the demographic forces associated with human aging; to reflect on the personal meaning of aging and consider the role of caregiving in families; to examine the continuum of care for the frail elderly and community resources for current and future elderly persons; and to discover roles in working with the Baby Boom generation.
The main presenter will be Deborah J. Monahan, Ph.D., CSW, professor in the School of Social Work. Monahan has taught courses in social work practice with individuals, families and small groups and social work practice with communities and organizations; processes of aging and social planning and the older American. She is a Fellow of the Gerontological Society of America, and is currently a co-investigator on research studies on the national evaluation of kinship care and geriatric enrichment in social work education.
