Seniors in Syracuse University's environmental design-interiors program recently exhibited 25 designs for a new civil engineering space at the American Society of Interior Designers' New York Upstate/Canada East Chapter Annual Career Day in Albany, N.Y. The exhibit will now move on to New York City.
The project is a collaboration between environmental design-interiors, part of the School of Art and Design in the College of Visual and Performing Arts, and SU's civil and environmental engineering department in the L.E. Smith College of Engineering and Computer Science. Raymond Letterman, professor of civil and environmental engineering, initiated the project when he realized that "standard classrooms are not appropriate for teaching engineering design to the contemporary civil and environmental engineering students."
Says Letterman, "We needed a space that allowed our students to interface with computers, that accommodated teamwork and group presentations, and that had capacity for multiple plug-ins. We hope to have space designated in Link Hall for this future room, and we had the benefit of collaborating with the environmental design-interiors program to come up with something appropriate."
