Li Li and Wei-Yi Yang, instructors in Syracuse University's Rose, Jules R. and Sanford S. Setnor School of Music, will give a faculty recital on April 18 at 2 p.m., in the Rose and Jules R. Setnor Auditorium, located in Crouse College. Li will play viola; Yang will play piano. Guest artists are Martha Sutter, mezzo-soprano; and Jeremy Mastrangelo, violin.
The performance will include "Suite in G Major for Unaccompanied Viola" by Johann Sebastian Bach, "Zwei Gesange, opus 91, no.2," by Johannes Brahms, "Duo No.1 K.423 in G," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and "Sonata in A Minor, D.821 'Arpeggione,' " by Franz Schubert.
Born in China, Li earned a bachelor's degree at Boston Conservatory and a master's degree at Boston University. She was invited to Tanglewood as principal violist for three seasons, working with maestro Seiji Ozawa, Yo-Yo Ma, and The Juilliard String Quartet. Li was the Concerto Competition winner at the Brevard Music Festival, and twice won the American String Teacher's Association competition in Georgia and Massachusetts. She has performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Pittsburgh Symphony.
A native of Taiwan, Wang is the winner of the gold medal in the Fifth San Antonio International Piano Competition. He has performed on four continents and in cities around the world, including New York, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, San Jose, Chicago, Taipei, Glasgow, Leeds, Dublin and Sydney. He is currently completing his doctorate at Yale University. Wang released a CD in January called "Music of Franz Schubert" on the Renegade Classics label.
