Syracuse University student employee Nicholas Rigos has not only been named SU's Student Employee of the Year, but also the New York State Student Employee of the Year. Jennifer Grunden, past president of the Northeast Association of Student Employment Administrators (NEASEA), as well as the NEASEA Student Employee of the Year Chairperson, made the announcement of the statewide decision on March 10, 2005. Nicholas was honored at a reception held at the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center on April 6, 2005.
In 2005, a total of 44 SU students were nominated for the prestigious Student Employee of the Year award. They, along with their nominators, were invited to the recognition ceremony. The Office of Disability Services nominated Rigos for his work on the SU Handicap Access Map and Guide. The project team, including Nicholas, has also been recognized among the finalists for SU's Exemplary Achievement Awards.
Nicholas, a senior in the School of Architecture, is from Pittsburgh. His nomination materials are now under consideration for the NEASEA Regional Student Employee of the Year award for the region that includes New York. The finalist from the region will compete for National Student Employee of the Year.
Also recognized at the April 6 reception were two local student employers of the year. On campus, the Office of Student Centers and Programming Services was recognized. The off-campus winner was the Growing Place, a day care center under Federal work study contract with SU.
