Former U.S. Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan, who earlier this year was named a University Professor, will speak at Hendricks Chapel April 12.
In his first lecture since returning to The Maxwell School faculty after 40 years of public service, Moynihan will talk about the future of Social Security and proposals to add a personal savings account component to the nation's retirement system. He has been a long-time proponent of personal accounts and sponsored numerous bills to reform Social Security during his 24 years in the Senate.
Moynihan's talk at SU is particularly timely, as President Bush is expected to announce a Social Security reform commission later this month that will be charged with developing proposals for personal accounts.
The lecture will begin at 4:15 p.m; a question-and-answer period will follow.
