Critically acclaimed Latin American artist Perez Celis will present a "Retrospective" of his work at 11 a.m. April 12 in Syracuse University's Shaffer Art Building, Room 132 C. The event will include a presentation of the Iris Perez Celis Award to Oscar Lopez, a senior painting major in the College of Visual and Performing Arts. The event, sponsored by the Department of Studio Arts, is free and open to the public.
Celis, an Argentinean-born painter, muralist and sculptor, has received international acclaim through his many individual and collective exhibitions throughout the Americas, Europe and Japan. His works are included in the collections of national and international museums, galleries and private corporations throughout the Americas, Asia and Europe, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires and at Mitsui in Tokyo. His work is also a part of the Syracuse University Art Collection.
Celis has lived and worked in Buenos Aires, Lima, Caracas, Paris, New York City and currently resides in Miami.
The Iris Perez Celis Award is an annual cash award presented to a minority student who excels in painting. The award was established by Joseph O. Lampe, chairman of the University's Board of Trustees, in memory of Celis' late wife, Iris.
