Max Underwood, professor of architecture at Arizona State University and principal in Underwood and Crisp Architects in Tempe, Ariz., will present "Work in the Office of Charles and Ray Eames" on April 9 at 7 p.m. in the Public Events Room, 220 Eggers Hall. The lecture is the annual L.C. Dillenback Lecture presented by SU's School of Architecture and is free and open to the public.
Underwood has received numerous honors and awards during his career, among them is the American Institute of Architects Arizona Educator Honor Award and National Teaching Innovations Honor Award, and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Architecture National Distinguished Professor Award and Medal. Underwood holds a master of architecture degree from Princeton University and worked in the Office (sic) of Charles and Ray Eames. Underwood's collaborative design work includes the Good Samaritan Medical Center Healing Garden, the John Cage Trust, the McCarthy Sensory Garden for the Blind, the Logos fabric collection for DesignTex and a new bed and breakfast in Central Arizona next to the Nature Conservancy refuge.
The L.C. Dillenback Lecture is named in honor of the late Lemuel Cross Dillenback, dean of SU's College of Fine Arts and Architecture from 1934 to 1957. The School of Architecture became a separate school at SU in 1958.
