Barrie Gewanter, director of the Central New York Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, will visit the Syracuse University campus April 9 as a guest of the College of Human Services and Health Professions (HSHP) Interprofessional Scholars. She will lead a forum discussion on "Perspectives on Social Justice: Journey of an Activist" from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Kilian Room, Room 500 of the Hall of Languages.

The scholars chose social justice as the theme for the forum. Gewanter's work has focused on the women's movement, gay and lesbian rights, civil liberties and civil rights. She has taught courses in women's studies at SU and has a long history of activism within the local community.

The HSHP Interprofessional Scholars Program, established during the Fall 2002 semester, was developed to promote interprofessional education, leadership and scholarship. Juniors and seniors are nominated for the program based on academic performance.
